Stella Jean is a half Caucasian half Haitian fashion designer. Her SS14 collection that just debuted in Milan stirred uproar among the ethnic fashion community. The designer is to be criticised for her lack of use of models of colour despite being half black herself. I mean really how whitewashed do people try to be? Just because you live in Italy Stella and are a designer it does not make you white. It is possible Stella was merely fitting in with her Italian peers who also fail to recognise coloured models in their runway shows. Whatever their reason for it, it is unacceptable and as a woman of colour Stella should be championing her race, not standing behind it by producing African style printed clothes, wearing African prints herself but then using no African models. The show just looked weird in my opinion.
"Saint Benedict is shown holding a wine jar, in reference to a legend that a jar of poisoned wine was fractured when blessed by the saint, thus saving him. - When Saint Benedict was elected abbot of the monastery of Vicovaro, the monks, who hated him for his strictness, attempted to poison him. He was saved by making the sign of the cross over his cup, which then broke into pieces.” (via metmuseum)
